Penghu is a beautiful place. It is not worth taking the ferry though as it takes up far too much time. Even though I detest flying, the next time I go I will definitely fly.
For those who do not know how to ride a bike, you can go for island hopping guided tours but it is necessary to book in advance if you go during peak periods. We did not, and were not able to get any tickets at all.
We were however very lucky to meet a wonderful cabbie. We booked him to tour the southern areas for half a day the first day NT , and the second day the northern areas of Penghu, Baisha, Xiyu for the entire day NT On the third day, we were required to check out at 10 a.
Our ferry is at 5 pm, so what to do between pm? We were quite lost, but luckily while wandering around we bumped into our cabbie, and he offered to bring us just cruising around for a few hours, free of charge. We clicked very well, so he really saved our day.
Green Homestay is the most reasonably priced minsu we can find in Magong at NT We chose it for the location. I would probably try another minsu if I visit again. I like the hotel we stayed at in Chiayi ā White Palace. The twin room looked terribly small on the website so we booked a triple room though there are just 2 of us. No regrets. It is also very conveniently located, just opposite the Chiayi train station. And it is clean. We stayed at Keyman in Taipei. There are so many good breakfast places just around this hotel too.
