Felt is used throughout the world, and Africa is no exception, as you will see from the range of handcrafted felt items shown here.
There are some original dangling earrings, rings and brooches, which are handsewn by a project named Zimele. This means “people stand on their own feet” in Zulu. The aim of the project is to help those in poor, rural areas to earn a living. The hope is that the lives of the women crafters will improve by selling their beautiful crafts.
The felt hanging angels make lovely Christmas tree decorations, or slip one into a get well card.
Farm animals are everywhere in Africa, chickens running around your feet, cows munching the verges, and this range of farm animals is bright and different, with each animal embellished with some bead work. Super in a child’s room, or hanging over a cot or pram.
