Soapstone

Kenyan Soapstone
.
Soapstone is quarried in the Kisii area of Kenya, where it is dug out of the ground in large blocks. This is then transported by lorry to craftsmen, who carve beautiful objects from it.
They then colour and dye much of the soapstone, and either carve patterns in it, or decorate it in various designs, according to their own personal taste.
Soapstone is wonderfully cool and smooth to the touch, and very tactile.
This is a range of products produced exclusively for Bazaar Africa.
